M14Hoops | Why Should I Sleep?

If you are only sleeping 4-5 hours a night due to staying up to playing video games or watching Netflix, you may want to reconsider it.

As an athlete, we want to do everything we can to be as successful as possible, and skipping out on sleep is holding you back towards that goal. If you do not get enough sleep, you will harm your mood, decrease your immune system, decrease performance, and not be able to recover fully, among many other adverse effects. We all here athletes say I want “bigger muscles.” To get this, you need to sleep! During sleep, muscle-building occurs, and a lack of sleep will affect this process.

Now you are asking yourself how much sleep do I need? I recommend trying to get 7-9 hours a sleep a night. Once it is time to sleep, a lot of people say they are not tired. To avoid this, make sure you in the right sleeping environment, quiet and dark as possible. After that is establish begin to work on a nightly routine, which consists of a time that you will go to bed.

As you can see, sleep is essential, and if you want to be successful, you will start by developing a good sleeping habit. When will you start is up to you, but I recommend starting tonight!
